NYFW RECAP: LUPE GAJARDO 02/17

The last show attended was for Chilean designer LUPE GAJARDO, which was the designer's NYFW debut. Her collection offered interesting shillouettes using recycled fabrics such as denim and burlaps.

NYFW RECAP: WHAT I WORE 02/16

2 Piece Set: Top Shop, Shoes: Top Shop (currently sold out), Sunglasses: Top Shop, Coat: Zara

Before the OUDIFU show, I went on the streets of Harlem (where I stayed) to do some shopping and got snapped while doing so. I loved this 2 piece jacket and pant combo from Top Shop. Too bad the matching jacket was hidden underneath my Zara coat (which I purchased in NY), but it was too cold to take off! Plus, I loved the pop of color it gave my outfit. I usually don't gravitate towards yellow, but I loved this mustard shade that blended so well with neutrals and other hues. My toes became numb after a while, but the shoes were well worth it after searching all Top Shop locations for them!

NYFW RECAP: 02/16 OUDIFU

The next show I attended was for RTW Chinese luxury brand OUDIFU, designed by Zhuliang Li. Like Carmen Valvo, Li used a neutral toned color story in the collection with pops of color (seems to be the trend for the F/W season.) There were a range of structured and loose separates, dresses, and furs that all had an Oriental influence with a modern twist.

NYFW RECAP: WHAT I WORE 02/15

Coat: ASOS, Dress: Phlo by Mariah, Shoes: Top Shop, Sunglasses: Top Shop

This was the coldest day of the week and of course I decided to wear my least warm outfit. As they say, fashion is pain. A pink monochromatic fit was apart of my Fashion Week wardrobe, but I definitely wore it on the wrong day!

NYFW RECAP: 02/15/15 CAMEN MARC VALVO

I finally embarked on my virgin voyage to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week!  I braved the extremely cold weather in open toe shoes and thin clothing instead of foregoing my strategically planned looks for the occasion. Unfortunately, because of the cold, there wasn't a slew of photographers outside the venue waiting to snap pictures of the best dressed. However, I didn't let the snow and sleet stop me from making the best of my trip and seeing collections for this year's Fall season. Let's just say that this will be the last time I do NYFW this time of year.

The first show I attended was for American designer Carmen Marc Valvo. His collection for Fall 15 was a cohesive blend of cocktail looks and evening dresses that complimented with tailored suits and tuxedos all within a black, grey, and pops of red color scheme.

OFF THE FRINGE

Top: Urban Outfitters, Bra: Urban Outfitters, Skirt: Nasty Gal, Shoes: Steve Madden

After being home for the holidays in Maryland, I came back to LA and took a stroll down Rodeo drive. The textured wall of the Saint Laurent store played the perfect back drop for this all black ensemble.  Typically, I would pair this fringe skirt with a tighter top, but I enjoyed the easiness of this silk tie blouse. It's always good to play with different silhouettes and switch it up. However, you should always keep in mind what works for your body type. I'm usually known for wearing cropped shirts and high waisted bottoms and I prefer that silhouette because it makes my body look longer and I'm a short girl (5'2".) Wearing a short skirt with a nice high heel will also do the trick.

CHAMPAGNE WISHES

Top: Urban Outfitters, Pants: Nasty Gal, Shoes: Ivanka Trump via Nordstroms,  Jewelry: Forever 21 & Urban Outfitters, Watch: Marc Jacobs via Nordstroms

Happy New Year! I wanted to start my first 2015 post with my NYE metallic monochromatic look. It's customary to wear a dress for this special evening, but I decided to go an unexpected route. I'm in love with these silk gold trousers from NG! They happened be the perfect pairing with a knit crop top I found at Urban (which is unfortunately sold out.) To top the look off, I wore iridescent leopard open toe booties from Ivanka Trump that were an excellent match. The coat was a must because it was freezing!

I'm looking forward to see what will be the big trends for 2015! My fashion goal for this year is to invest more in timeless pieces that will last me for years to come. I hate to see clothing in my closet that I've never worn or only worn once. I ask myself the following questions whenever I'm debating a purchase:  Will I get a lot of wear out of it and is it worth the price? I can be pretty impulsive when it comes to shopping, but this year I plan to continue to scale back on my spending by only buying pieces that will last through years and seasons.
